REPORT OF CELEBRATION OF
“INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR CONSERVATION OF MANGROVE ECOSYSTEM”
Industrial Section Indian Museum (ISIM) in collaboration with Environmental Information, Awareness, Capacity Building and Livelihood Programme (EIACP) Programme Centre–Resource Partner on Biodiversity (Flora), Botanical Survey of India (BSI) has celebrated “International Day for Conservation of Mangrove Ecosystem” on 26th July, 2024 at ISIM Auditorium, BSI, Kolkata. The major aim of this programme was to create awareness among students about the importance of Mangrove Ecosystem, their role in prevention of soil erosion especially in coastal areas and conservation strategies of this special type of vegetation. The programme was started with Welcome address & a brief lecture on ‘Botanical Gallery’ by Dr. Debasmita Dutta Pramanick, Scientist ‘D’ & HOO In-charge of ISIM, BSI followed by Keynote address by Dr. J.S. Jalal, Scientist ‘E’, Hqrs., BSI & In-charge of EIACP PC-RP, BSI. Graceful presence of Dr. Animesh Maji, Asstt. Prof., Dept. of Botany, Radha Govinda University, Jharkhand and his lead lecture on “Mangrove Diversity & effects of Climate Change in Sunderbans Biosphere Reserve’’ highly enriched the event. 26 students & 06 faculty members from three colleges namely, Govt. General Degree College, Lalgarh, Jhargram, Pingla Thana Mahavidyalaya, Paschim Mednipore & Seva Bharti Mahavidyalaya, Jhargram participated in this programme. A Guided tour to Botanical Gallery was organized under the leadership of Dr. Dutta Pramanick and team during which important botanical collections have been illustrated. The programme was concluded with the National Anthem and the entire program was nicely hosted by all staffs of ISIM and staff members of EIACP PC-RP, BSI.
