EIACP PC-RP on Biodiversity (Flora), Botanical Survey of India in collaboration with Netaji Mahavidyalaya, Arambag, Hooghly, West Bengal celebrating World Ozone Day 2024 on 13th September 2024 at Netaji Mahavidyalaya, Arambag, Hooghly to create awareness among public about the Ozone layer depletion and its impact on the global climate. This year, the theme was “Montreal Protocol: Advancing Climate Action”. The observance of “World Ozone Day 2024” included an awareness rally and a drawing competition among the college students. The inaugural programme was anchored by Dr. Jiban Kumar Pal, Associate Professor & Head, Dept. of Botany, Netaji Mahavidyalaya. In the inaugural programme Vice-Principal Dr. Biswanath Garai felicitated the guest and expressed his gratitude to EIACP PC-RP, Botanical Survey of India for organizing the programme in this college and also highlights on the importance of World Ozone Day. The significance of the origin of Ozone day, Montreal Protocol and COP towards the betterment of a healthy and hygienic environment was emphasized in the inaugural lecture. The event had in attendance, Dr. Avijit Mukherjee, Dept. of Zoolgy, IQAC Co-ordinator, Netaji Mahavidyalaya, Dr. Manjusha Sarkar, Asst. Prof. & Dr. Sayani Biswas, SACT, Dept. of Botany, Prof. Tilaknath Ghosh, HoD, Commerce, Prof. Udai Nandi, Governing Body member & Head, Dept. of English, Prof. Krishanu Sarkar, Head, Dept. of Chemistry, Prof. Sumita Rani Das, Head, Dept. of Bengali, other delegates from BSI EIACP PC-RP and non-teaching staff. Dr. Soumen Gantait, Programme Officer, EIACP PC-RP, Botanical Survey of India addressed the teachers, students & participants and emphasized the role, duty and participation of every citizen of the country in minimizing the depletion of ozone layer by limiting our greediness and providing a safe and healthy environment for the future generations. An awareness rally was organized on ‘Save Ozone – save Earth’, ‘Ozone Today, Life Tomorrow’, ‘Our Ozone, Our Future’ and ‘Protect the Ozone, Protect Our Children’ slogans around the college campus and surrounding area. 309 students of different departments and NCC students participated in this rally. In this programme ‘Sit & Draw competition’ was organised of which 87 students of different departments participate. The topic of the drawing competition was ‘Save Ozone Save Earth’. A Mission LiFE programme was organised among the gathering with distribution of Mission LiFE leaflets and a pledge is also taken. This one day programme concluded with the prize distribution to the winners of drawing competition and by giving vote of thanks.
