EIACP PC-RP (Environmental Information, Awareness, Capacity Building and Livelihood Programme, Programme Centre–Resource Partner) on Biodiversity (Flora), Botanical Survey of India, Howrah organized a plantation programme to promote ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign under #Plant4Mother initiative in association with Dept. of Botany, Nature’s Club and NSS Units of Rabindra Mahavidyalaya, Champadanga, Hooghly at Rabindra Mahavidyalaya campus and surrounding areas on 27th August 2024. The programme inaugurated by Dr. Prasanta Bhattacharyya, Principal, Rabindra Mahavidyalaya, Champadanga, Dr. Shelly Sinha, Asst. Professor & Head, Dept. of Botany, Rabindra Mahavidyalaya, Champadanga, Dr. Sumanti Gupta, Asst. Professor & Dr. Jayita Saha, Asst. Professor, Dept. of Botany, Rabindra Mahavidyalaya, Champadanga. After inauguration, Principal, Rabindra Mahavidyalaya, Champadanga handed over the plant saplings to the student and his/her mother for planting. After inauguration Dr. Soumen Gantait, Programme Officer, BSI EIACP PC-RP briefed about the objectives of the programme. He also explained the importance of plantation and how the plants benefit us in our daily life. Total 123 of which 75 students, 40 mother, 4 Asst. Prof., 2 members of Natur’s Club and 2 from NSS Units. 40 students along with his/her mother planted different plant like Ficus benghalensis (Bot/Bargad), Ficus religiosa (Peepal/Aswatha), Azadirachta indica (Neem), Terminalia arjuna (Arjun), Nyctanthes arbor-tristis (Siuli), Lagerstroemia indica (Jarul), Mangifera indica (Mango), Acacia auriculiformis (Akasmoni), Alstonia scholaris (Chhatim) etc. in the college and surrounding premises. The name of the student and his/her mother name are tagged with each and every plant. Mission LiFE programme themes are discussed and leaflets are distributed among the students, parents and teachers. Dr. Susmita Sengupta of Nature’s Club express her gratitude to the entire team members of BSI EIACP PC-RP for organising such type of programme in the college. At the end a formal vote of thanks was given by Mr. Swagato Mukherjee SACT, Rabindra Mahavidyalaya, Champadanga.
