Report on World Environment Day 2024

 

EIACP Programme Centre- Resource Partner on Biodiversity (Flora) of Botanical Survey of India in collaboration with Tarakeswar Green Mates, Narayanpur, Tarakeswar, Hooghly celebrated the World Environment Day 2024 on 1st June 2024 at Narayanpur A.B. High School, Narayanpur, Tarakeswar, Hooghly. The theme for this year was “Land Restoration, Desertification and Drought Resilience”. The inauguration programme started with the welcome address and a brief introduction about the signification of celebration of ‘World Environment Day’ and also the theme of this year by Dr. Soumen Gantait, Programme Officer, BSI EIACP PC-RP, BSI. Mr. Kalyan Adak, Memeber of Tarakeswar Green Mates also addressed the participants during this inaugural session. In the inaugural session Dr. Rajkumar Pakhira, Mr. Somenath Bera, Mr. Anis Mal, Ms. Aparna Maity and Ms. Kumarika Adak of Tarakeswar Green Mates, Mr. Subhasis Maity, Teacher, Narayanpur A.B. High School and Mr. Somenath Nandi & Mr. Kaushik Naskar of BSI EIACP PC-RP were also present. After the inaugural programme an Awareness Rally was started with the students of different school of Tarakeswar, Hooghly in and around the Narayapur A.B. High School. After this rally the drawing competition was organized among the students of different school of Tarakeswar, Hooghly. A Mission LiFE programme was organised among the participants. Mission LiFE leaflets distributed and Mission LiFE pledge was  is also taken. Total 57 students participated in this drawing completion. Mr. Rajdep Dey performed as Judge to select the top four winners. The first prize was bagged by Ms. Unmona Maiti of Tarakeswar High School and Soroj Manna of Narayanpur A.B. High School.  Ms. Trisha Pal of Narayapur Balika Vidyalaya won second prize and Ms. Sudipa Koley of Nachipur M.N.A.C. Vidya Mandir secured the third prize. Participation certificate also given to all the participants. Dr. Soumen Gantait, Mr. Kalyan Adak and Dr. Rajkumar Pakhira distributed the prizes to the winners. Formal vote of thanks was given by Mr. Subhasis Maity, Teacher, Narayanpur A.B. High School.

On the occasion of World Environment Day 2024 another event "Mass Sit and Draw Competition" was conducted by BSI EIACP PC-RP on Biodiversity (Flora), Howrah on 05.6.2024 in collaboration with Central National Herbarium and Central Botanical Laboratory, Botanical Survey of India at CNH Building, B. Garden, Howrah. The competition was inaugurated by renowned West Bengal artists Mr. Naba Kumar Chakraborty and Dr. Supriti Dutta from Kolkata, along with senior scientists from CNH and CBL. These two renowned artists performed Canvas Painting in this programme to inspire the budding artists. Mr. Chakraborty and Dr. Dutta applauded the efforts of the Botanical Survey of India for organizing such an impactful event on World Environment Day. A live canvas drawing was performed by the young artist Mr. Rajdeep Hazra during this Environment Day event. A Rangoli was made at CNH Building ground floor to observe WED 2024. Total 6 groups i.e. Group 1 (3 - 5 yrs.), Gr. 2 (5+ - 8 yrs.), Gr. 3 (8+ - 11 yrs.), Gr. 4 (11+ - 14 yrs.), Gr. 5 (14+ - 17 yrs.) and Gr. 6 (17+ yrs. above) were constituted among different age groups for 'Sit and Draw Competition'. The judges panel for the competition including independent artist and Instagram influencer Mr. Koushik Mondal, Mr. Avik Chakraborty, TGT Art Education from Kendriya Vidyalaya Salt Lake, along with internal experts Dr. Kanad Das, Scientist-F and BSI artist Mr. Dineshwar Sah evaluated the drawings. Dr. C. Murugan, Director in charge of BSI, along with Dr. Pratibha Gupta, Scientist ‘F’ & HoO, CBL, BSI,  Dr. Jeewan Singh Jalal, Scientist ‘E’, Hqrs., BSI & In-charge, BSI EIACP PC-RP, and Dr. R.K. Gupta, Scientist ‘E’ & HoO, CNH, BSI presented certificates of participation and token gifts to all the young participants. Total 239 students participated in this drawing programme. From the Category 1 Ms. Anvika Dey, Ms. Prakriti Sadhukhan and Mr. Riddhiman Biswa secured first, second and third positions respectively; from Category 2 Ms. Janvi Shaw, Ms. Aaradhaya Das and Ms. Jaishnavi Dey got first, second and third prizes; from Category 3  Ms. Ayurda Dey, Mr. Adrij Das and Ms. Rupsa Bogi won first, second and third prizes; from Category 4 Ms. Moitri Saha, Ms. Smritika Ghosh and Mr. Sarthak Paul secured first, second and third position; from Category 5 Mr. Suvo Das, Ms. Rishika Mondal and Ms. Adrija Paul got first, second and third place and from the Category 6 Mr. Rakesh Chunari, Ms. Swastika Acharya and Mr. Souvick Paul secured first, second and third place respectively. The participants also administered a Mission Life pledge. Dr. Pratibha Gupta concluded the inaugural session with a heartfelt vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all who contributed to the success of the event.

 

On the occasion of World Environment Day 2024, Staff members of EIACP PC-RP on Biodiversity (Flora), Botanical Survey of India participated in the Mass Awareness Rally with AJC Bose Indian Botanic Garden, Howrah focusing on the theme "Land Restoration, Desertification and Drought Resilience" under the slogan 'Our land our future are #Generation Restoration' on 05.06.2024. More than 500 people including students of different school of Howrah and Kolkata, parents, staff, NGOs and morning walkers participated in this mass rally. Mass plantation drive and sapling distributions were also organised.
