EIACP Programme Centre-Resource Partner on Biodiversity (Flora) of Botanical Survey of India in collaboration with Central National Herbarium, BSI celebrated the International Day for Biodiversity on 22^nd May 2024 at the Central National Herbarium, Botanical Survey of India, Howrah. The theme for this year is “Be Part of the Plan”. This theme reflects the urgent need to move beyond commitments and translate them into tangible actions to restore and protect biodiversity. The celebration was marked by a significant event where Dr. A.A. Mao, Director, BSI along with senior officials and researchers released the fishes into AJCBIBG Fish tank, symbolizing the importance of ecosystem services. The inauguration programme started with the welcome address and a brief introduction about Biodiversity by Dr. R.K. Gupta, Scientist ‘E’ & In-charge, CNH, BSI. Mr. Sanjay Kumar, Botanist, CNH, BSI also addressed the participants during this inaugural session. Top six scorers of four categories were selected through a written test of questionnaires on Biodiversity for making six groups containing four participants in each group for quiz competition. After that quiz competition was organized among the Scientists, PDF, Research Associate, Research Scholars, scientific staffs, administrative staffs and MTS of Central National Herbarium, Botanical Survey of India at CNH Auditorium, B. Garden, Howrah. Total six groups i.e. ‘Arjuna’, ‘Bhoomi’, ‘Brahmi’, ‘Parijaat’, ‘Prakiti’ and ‘Tulsi’ were formed with 4 members each. Sri Sanjay Kumar, Botanist, BSI conducted this quiz programme. The first prize was bagged by team ‘Parijaat’, second by ‘Tulsi’ and ‘Bhoomi’ secured the third prize. A total of 63 participants participated in this programme. Dr. R.K. Gupta, Scientist ‘E’ & In-charge, CNH, BSI distributed the prizes to the winner. During the valedictory function, Dr. R.K. Gupta and Dr. Avishek Bhattacharjee, Scientist ‘E’, CNH, BSI addressed the participants regarding the programme. Formal vote of thanks was given by Mr. Subrata Rudra, UD, CNH, BSI.
