Report on celebration of International Day for the Conservation of Mangrove Ecosystem 2023

BSI EIACP PC RP conducted an outreach programme on occasion of International Day for the Conservation of Mangrove Ecosystem at Sundarban Janakalyan Sangha Vidyaniketan, Rudranagar, Sagar, 24-Parganas (South) on 26th July 2023. Dr. S. Gantait, Programme officer, EIACP PC RP delivered the introductory lecture. Dr. A. Maji delivered a lecture on the topic ‘Role of Mangrove plant in the conservation of Mangrove ecosystem in Sundarban, West Bengal’. Quiz competition programme was also organised for the students. Token prizes were distributed to the winners for encouragement of the students. Awareness programme on Mission LiFE was also conducted. Leaflets on Mission LiFE themes distributed among the students. Students also have taken pledge of Mission LiFE.

A two days National Symposium on ‘Building Synergies for Healthy Mangroves and a robust value chain around the mangrove ecosystem in Sundarbans’ was organised by Nature Environment & Wildlife Society (NEWS) in technical collaboration with Department of Forests, Govt. of West Bengal on 26th & 27th July 2023 at Eastern Court, Hotel ITC Royal Bengal, Kolkata. Dr. K. Karthigeyan, Scientist ‘E’, CNH, BSI & In-charge, BSI EIACP PC RP was attended the symposium and delivered a lecture on ‘Status and Diversity of tree mangroves, rare mangroves taxa and invasive species in the mangrove ecosystem of Sundarbans’ on 26th July 2023 on occasion of “International Day for the Conservation of Mangrove Ecosystem”.
