The World Wetlands Day is celebrated annually on 2nd February to create awareness among people about the importance of wetlands and different ways to restore their rapid loss and degradation. The day is also aimed to highlight the vital role of wetlands in maintaining biodiversity and supporting human well-being. The theme for this year’s World Wetlands Day is ‘It’s Time for Wetlands Restoration’. The theme highlights the urgency to prioritize wetland restoration. BSI EIACP PC RP celebrated this year’s World Wetland Day at the Ghoshpara Nischinda Balika Vidyapith School, Bally, Howrah on 2nd February 2023. A total of 258 students of different classes along with 16 teachers participated in this programme.
The programme started with welcoming the delegates by the students of this school with flowers and hand made greetings cards on wetlands made by students. The welcome address was proposed Dr. Mitali Bose Chakraborty, Head Mistress, Ghoshpara Nischinda Balika Vidyapith followed by a brief introduction about the programme by Dr. Soumi Bhattacharjee, Teacher, Ghoshpara Nischinda Balika Vidyapith, Bally, Howrah. Dr. K. Karthigeyan, Scientist ‘E’, CNH, BSI & In-charge, BSI EIACP PC RP on Biodiversity (Flora) highlighted the importance of wetland in his introductory speech during the inaugural session. Ms. Jaya Majumdar, Teacher of the school briefed the history of wetlands of that area and how these wetlands disappeared gradually.
Dr. Animesh Maji, Ex-Research Associate, Central National Herbarium (CNH), Botanical Survey of India delivered an interesting lecture on ‘Wetland and its importance’ in the local language (Bengali). The students and faculty members thoroughly enjoyed the lecture and actively participated in the discussion at the end of the lecture. After the lecture, the teachers of the school expressed their views on the programme and its relevance in the current scenario. Dr. K. Karthigeyan handed over the recent Publications of BSI EIACP PC RP to the Head Mistress Dr. Mitali Bose Chakraborty. The students also displayed the placards made by them on the local wetlands near their school. They also enthusiastically displayed placards on LiFE mission prepared by BSI EIACP PC RP for the awareness #MissionLiFE #ChooseLiFE among the students of Ghoshpara Nischinda Balika Vidyapith, Bally, Howrah.
Dr. Mitali Bose Chakraborty, Head Mistress and Dr. Soumi Bhattacharjee, Teacher, Ghoshpara Nischinda Balika Vidyapith, Bally, Howrah and other teachers extended all possible support and provided all the available facilities for the programme. On behalf of school, Ghoshpara Nischinda Balika Vidyapith, Dr. Soumi Bhattacharjee, teacher expressed her gratitude to the entire team members of BSI EIACP Programme Centre- Resource Partners on Biodiversity (Flora) for organising the awareness programme.
The programme ended with vote of thanks by Dr. Soumi Bhattacharjee, Teacher, Ghoshpara Nischinda Balika Vidyapith, Bally, Howrah.

A total of 123 students of different classes along with 7 teachers are participated in this in this programme.
The programme started with the welcoming address from Ms. Durba Ain Das, Head Mistress, Bill Joypur High School, Bally, Howrah followed by a brief introduction about the programme by Dr. Goutam Brahma, Teacher of the School.
