Report of World Ozone Day 2022

 
Central National Herbarium and ENVIS Resource Partner on Biodiversity (Flora), Botanical Survey of India in collaboration with Swapnopuron Shiksha Niketan, Jorabattala, Hingalganj, North 24-parganas,West Bengal celebrated World Ozone Day on 16th September 2022 at Hingalganj, North 24-Parganas, West Bengal in offline mode. This year the theme is Montreal Protocol @35: Global Cooperation Protecting Life on Earth. The team of BSI and BSI ENVIS RP visited the school and organised an awareness rally on Save Ozone–Save Life surrounding area of the school at Hingalganj block, located at the Indo-Bangladesh International border in Sunderbans, West Bengal. Different schools of Hingalganj, North 24-Parganas, W.B. participated in the programme. The programme started with the welcome address by Mrs. Soma Das, Vice-Principal, SSN. After the welcome address, Dr. S.S. Dash, Scientist E & In-charge, Technical Section, BSI, Hqrs., Salt Lake, Kolkata joined the event virtually and inaugurated the session by emphasizing the significance of the Ozone Day celebration, the concept of Good Ozone vs Bad Ozone and informing the students about the Montreal Protocol. After this lecture session one video film was screened to the participants on ‘Reset Earth: One Ozone, One Planet One Chance’. In this programme Dr. Mahua Pal, Botanist, CNH, BSI delivered a lecture on ‘Reintroduction of Cheetah in India” which was released by Hon’ble Prime Minister in Kuno-Palpur forest in Madhya Pradesh on 17.09.2022. A quiz competition was conducted by Mr. Sanjay Kumar, Botanist, CNH, BSI among the school students. Twelve students in six groups of different school of this region actively participated in the quiz programme. Prizes were distributed among the winning candidates in the quiz competition.In the Quiz competition, Mr. Rahman Gazi and Deep Das got first prize, Ms. Tanuska Bhattacharya and Urmi Halder secured second while Mr. Shyan Pramanick and Snehasis Mondal secured the third position. All winners were felicitated with trophies, medals and certificates by the organizers. On behalf of organiser, Mrs. Soma Bose, Vice-Principal, SSN expressed her sense of gratitude to the team BSI & BSI ENVIS RP for organising such an event in the remotest school of the state of West Bengal.
