WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY 2016
World Environment Day 2016 was celebrated in AJC Bose Indian Botanical Garden, Botanical Survey of India, Howrah on 5th June, 2016 through a variety of awareness programmes including Sit & Draw competition, plant sapling distribution, plantation, and mass rally.
This year’s theme was “Go wild for life - Zero tolerance for the illegal wildlife trade”.
More than 400 students from different schools in Howrah, Kolkata, Hooghly & Medinipur districts of West Bengal participated in Sit & Draw competition. The students were grouped in to four groupsas per their age.
Dr. B.K. Mahapatra, Chief Scientist & In-Charge, Central Institute of Fisheries Education, Kolkata was present as the Chief Guest while, Sri V.K.S. Sastry, AGM, Union Bank of India graced the occasion as Guest of Honour. Er. A.K. Pathak, Scientist ‘G’, Dr. P.V. Prasanna, Scientist ‘F’, Dr. B.K. Sinha, Scientist ‘F’ and other senior scientists and staff of Botanical Survey of India were participated in the programme.
Union Bank of India gifted school bags to all the children, who participated in the Sit & Draw competition.
A cultural performance related to environment awareness was presented by the dance troop PRATIDHWAANI from Kolkata.
The programme was concluded with vote of thanks.
