A Checklist of Indian Pteridophytes

 

 

 

A CHECKLIST OF INDIAN PTERIDOPHYTES

 

INTRODUCTION

 

The checklist if Indian Pteridophytes is preseneted here. The present checklist shows that there are now altogether 34 families recognised here (in both Lycophytae and Filicatae), 130 genera, 1107 species and 50 additional subspecies of pteridophyres known from India, of which 43 species are exotic (widely cultivated, escaped or naturalised) and not part of the natural flora. Within the species there are 108 known subspecies (50 are additional to the number of species, and 58 are included within the number of species and not extra). Varieties, forms and below are not recognised here, but are treated as being within the normal variation of the species or subspecies. Altogether there are 1114 indigenous taxa and 43 exotic. There are also an additional 100 sterile F1 hybrids known.

Selaginellaceae: (no. of genera in area = 1; no. of species = 55; no. of included subspecies = 1; no. of additional subspecies = 0; total taxa = 55).

Isoetaceae: (no. of genera in area = 1; no. of species = 4; no. of subspecies = 0; total taxa = 4)

Equisetaceae: (no. of genera in area = 1; no. of species = 3; no. of included subspecies = 1; no. of additional subspecies = 1; total taxa = 4).

Psilotaceae: (no. of genera in area = 1; no. of species = 2; no. of subspecies = 0; total taxa = 2).

Ophioglossaceae: (no. of genera in area = 3; no. of species = 20; no. of included subspecies = 2; no. of additional subspecies = 0; total taxa = 20).

Marattiaceae: (no. of genera in area = 3; no. of species = 5; no. of subspecies = 0; total taxa = 5).

Osmundaceae: (no. of genera in area = 1; no. of species = 6; no. of included subspecies: 2; no. of additional subspecies = 0; total taxa = 6).

Plagiogyriaceae: (no. of genera in area = 1; no. of species = 4; no. of subspecies = 0; total taxa = 4).

Dipteridaceae: (no. of genera in area =1; no. of species = 1; no. of subspecies = 0; total taxa = 1).

Gleicheniaceae: (no. of genera in area = 2; no. of species = 7; no. of subspecies = 0; total taxa = 7).

Lygodiaceae: (no. of genera in area = 1; no. of species = 9; no. of subspecies = 0; total taxa = 9).

Schizaeaceae: (no. of genera in area = 2; no. of species = 3; no. of included subspecies = 1; no. of additional subspecies = 0; total taxa = 3).
